Late winter mimics early spring

The sunny corner of our garden glows
From winter's strange attempt at spring's first warmth,
The seasonally awkward Sun outshines
Its normal self, cajoling forth the blooms
Of radiant red camelias by the wall.

Above the patio the red kites plane,
Massing up to five at once, all wheeling,
Taking advantage of their airy perch
To spot a movement beckoning below
And peel away, as warplanes do, to dive,
Revealing how some win while others lose
As Easter, herald of rebirth, draws near.
