Spring

How happily the days are lengthening,
As spring pries open winter's  balefull grip.
What has been dark of night now is bright morn,
And birds that sang concealed flute full in light.

Shy buds assume a confidence they lacked
And paint the trees and shrubs in artful hues,
While lovers learn from nature's urgent way
To reawake what has been plunged in sleep.
