A Study in Concentration

Above the hob he bends at work,
His face expressing concentration;
The raw food must be firm and fresh,
The quantities all rightly weighed,
The timing to the second right,
The finished dish a wondrous whole
Enticing taste buds to the feast,
While fragrance wafts against the nose;
And as to texture and to taste
He must be sure that he has judged
The garlic for a testy guest.
